MTC Update #2

Hey everyone! I've been at the In-Person MTC now for 3 days and I can't get my jaw off the floor! This place is incredible! Uniting with my companion and District was the biggest highlight by far. I love them so much and I'm so grateful for each and every one of them.

So let's quickly run through some thoughts from the week:

Wednesday, Caden and I packed up and went to the airport. Saying "see you later" to our parents was hard, but the Lord eased our minds. It was truly a blessing Caden and I had each other's backs when we left to check in through those doors. Our tickets were supposed to be paid for and provided by the church to get to Utah, but I ran into an issue; apparently my seat had been reserved but not confirmed and paid for. So I had to call Church Travel and get that worked out. It only took a few minutes thank goodness. They also changed our seating without our knowledge from Economy to Comfort Plus and even put us next to each other so that was an epic treat.

We arrived and were picked up/transported by my Companions incredible family. So grateful for their willingness to do that for us and not cause us to wait another 40 mins for a shuttle.

Walking through the front doors of the MTC was surreal and so cool. It felt like it was exactly where I needed to be and I know this is God's plan. After dinner that evening we had a welcome to the MTC devotional with the MTC president and a few other leaders. That inclusive discussion was incredible. After that me and Elder Montoya went to our dorm. Since the MTC is pretty empty and only vaccinated missionaries are here we got a dorm with two bunks, closets, and areas all to ourselves.

Inside one of the closets is an inscription that said "check the vent above the door". I whipped out my multi-tool and got to work on unscrewing it. There was nothing there, but since it was open me and Elder Montoya decided to contribute something ourselves. We put a signed dollar and a note with our traced names and mission assignments inside. It was pretty fun.

Thursday was filled with normal activities we've been doing online: planning and studying. Me and my companion walked around a lot to get familiar with where everything is. The campus is pretty big but I don't think it'll be easy to get lost anymore. We had a class with my teacher Sister Potts and it was so good to finally be in person. Great lesson on how to get better at meeting/talking/getting to know people. Since we've been online for class I never have seen my teacher stand. When I got to class she was sitting and it looked like she was missing a leg. I was surprised and I had no idea she couldn't walk. PSYCH! She stood up and walked with two legs. I was taken back and started laughing way too hard and everyone was like: what is going on?? She was sitting on top of one of her legs and her skirt covered that position up way too well. When people realized what I was freaking out about they lost it too and Sister Potts was really flustered as well.

That night we had a branch meeting. (A branch is just a congregation for Sunday church meetings). We got to meet our Branch President; President Speirs. We talked and learned how church services were going to work and what we should study to have a short discussion about in the meantime of some interview. Each companionship had an interview with President Speirs or one of his Councilors. We were with the President and his wife. We just talked and they got to know us a little bit. Later, back in the Congregation's meeting room, after our discussion on our quick study, we learned who would be asked to take the assignments of District Leaders, Zone leaders and Sister training leaders. Zone leaders are a companionship leading over a few connected Districts. District leaders are over a specific district, and Sister training leaders are over the sisters in the District. Me and Elder Montoya were asked to take the assignment to be Zone leaders. It comes with a lot of responsibilities but we're as ready as we can be for the challenge.

That's really it. Today is P-day again and we get to go to the Provo temple this afternoon, which is super exciting. I hope everyone has a great day and upcoming week. Talk to y'all again soon.
