Lest We Forget
Hard to get used to no sunlight around 4pm. But the work moves forward. It was a week full of finding. We tried some tracting which was pretty cool and there was this Church of England chapel that we saw and went into for a moment. It was completely empty. No one on site or around it. So it was cool to walk around and look at the different artwork and designs on the chapel walls.
I had exchanges in Addlestone with Elder Jones this week and that was really fun. In the evening there was a member who ordered us Peri Peri chicken and asked us if we wanted it mild, medium, or hot. I thought it would be from a place called Nandos which is a really popular Peri Peri chicken chain in the UK. I know that their version of "hot" really isn't that hot. Thinking it would be from Nandos we both told the member "hot" would be great. Well the chicken came from a place called Jango's—NOT Nando's— and it was SO HOT. I had to drink so much water and my nose was running really badly. Elder Jones was dripping sweat down his face and shaking. It had great flavor, but that was a night to remember. We laughed about it afterwards.
We are still teaching this African Couple where the wife is a member and her husband has been loving the discussions and things we have been sharing with him. He's a good friend and very in-tune with the Spirit. This time, however, the Spirit was really strong and almost all shed a few tears as we read 3 Nephi Ch. 11 in the Book of Mormon, where the Savior visits and ministers to the ancient American people and as we share our testimonies of the Savior.
We had a Remembrance Day ceremony on Sunday for the Soldiers who have died serving in the armed forces. There was a special feeling of unity and faith in the community when everyone met to gather at the city memorial site in the town-center.
Have a good week everyone!
Spiritual Thought:
A faithful friend is a strong defense. A friend with faith can help others a lot in times of temptation and trial because their character, integrity, and attitude can speak volumes. In turn, it is a defense others can use to combat the adversary's constant attacks on these virtues. We can be a tool, instrument, and shield.
Our mission President talked about the power of positive peer-pressure and how in his school him and a group of the more popular students banded together, after having a drug awareness and "dont't-do-drugs" initiative in middle school. He shared how they made a pact to not do drugs or drink between themselves and that this resulted in his graduating class being the easiest and most drug-free and problem-free class that his school had ever had. It influenced everyone in the school between the sports teams and extracurricular/academic groups to not participate in the harmful substances.
